2. As you’re shooting, think about the differences between the big screen and the really, really small screen. For one, we all want to see faces, so use more close-ups. And remember that resolution on the web isn’t so good right now, so you’ll want to limit your camera movement whenever possible. Here are two cool links about internet video aesthetics:

1. We shoot HIA on a Canon GL2 but any digital camera will work, so long as you can export that video to your computer. Just about all digital cameras come with a firewire port, but not necessarily with the firewire cable, which you can buy at any computer store. Here are a few sites that give some information on cameras you can buy or rent:

3. After you’ve shot, it’s time for for editing. We use Final Cut Pro, but iMovie works too. If you don’t have a Mac, you can use Adobe Premier, but since we don’t have any experience with it, you’ll have to figure that one out on your own. Here are some links that we found useful we we first started editing:

4. You’re almost there. Now that you have an edited piece it’s time to export the movie (or in iMove terms, “share” it). Exporting is tricky, but we usually use these settings:

                            Video Compression: H.264
                            Bitrate: 600kbps
                            Sound Format: AAC
                            Sample Rate: 44000Khz

On iMovie you can find these options under Quicktime, Expert Settings. Here are a couple links on exporting video:

5. Finally, you have to get your video up on the web. YouTube is pretty classic, but Google and Yahoo also have video sites. Actually there are a ton of new video servers out there. Try out Blip.tv or Revver.com which will allow you to make revenue off of the hits you get on your videos. Just read the fine print. Here are some links on that:

6. Quick note: You’re going to want to have a fun idea for a vlog. Here are some vlogs that we enjoy watching. They vary in content, but we think they all bring something unique to the table. Good luck with your own vlog!
